Woods and O'Meara give a clinic on the aircraft carrier USS George Washington

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (PA) -- Tiger Woods and Mark O'Meara secretly visited American troops in the Arabian Gulf on Wednesday prior to teeing off in the Dubai Desert Classic on Thursday.

The world's No. 1 golfer described the trip as "one of the most awe-inspiring afternoons of my life."

After practicing on Wednesday, Woods went by private jet from the United Arab Emirates to Bahrain, then switched to a fighter jet to be taken to an American aircraft carrier, the USS George Washington, in the Arabian Gulf.

Once on board, Woods and 1998 Masters and British Open champion O'Meara gave a clinic to 6,000 military personnel and handed out gifts before returning for the tournament.
